Nyumba means home.
It's one word that people across southern and East Africa understand, and it says exactly what we promise: getting your loved one home.
Why we started Nyumba
Millions of people from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho and Eswatini live and work in South Africa. When someone passes away far from home, families face costs of R30,000 to R50,000 and weeks of paperwork, often at the hardest moment of their lives.
Nyumba exists so that no family has to do that alone. For a small monthly amount, we take responsibility for the whole journey home, working with trusted funeral partners in both countries.
Our logo shows a home, and a journey that starts in South Africa and ends in a warm light at home, wherever home is.
Who we are
Nyumba is a service of MM SAkonda and Associates, a consulting firm working across southern Africa in quantity surveying, project management and technology. We built Nyumba's platform ourselves, so families can report, follow and trust every step.
